AlphaStar in StarCraft II

ai def

StarCraft II can be difficult to play against both high- and low-level rivals if you have ever played. AlphaStar, an AI StarCraft II AI, defeated both high- and low-ranking StarCraft II players. AlphaStar had 1026 actions available at any one time, so it was not limited to a handful. It is therefore impossible to predict how an AI will play a specific game.

AlphaStar

StarCraft AI’s AlphaStar is an intelligent robot that can play as Protoss and Terran. Each race is unique in its technology and abilities. All three prefer different defense strategies. DeepMind's team created an AlphaStar league where they could play against both AI agents and humans. After a few years, AI agents had perfected their skills and were now a formidable opponent for all three races.

It's easy to mistake an AI for a human. Human players interact by looking at their screens, using the keyboard and mouse to give commands, and then using the camera for different areas. AlphaStar agents are able to see the entire area and can choose from a variety of units to obtain information. The AI is intended to be a human-like agent and perform all of these functions more efficiently.

DeepMind

In a series of tests, DeepMind's AlphaStar agent beat professional StarCraft II player Grzegorz "MaNa" Komincz several times last December. The AI could quickly see the entire board and react quicker than humans. But the team also had to limit its learning by imposing human-like limitations on AlphaStar. The AI could only use 22 commands every five second, and it had to deal with a tenth of a second delay.

AlphaStar was developed using reinforcement learning, which involves the algorithm learning through trial and error. This AI system beat 99.8% of players online. And that's not all: AlphaStar has even beaten the best human StarCraft players in the world. That's a pretty impressive achievement. DeepMind has an ambitious plan to develop AI. They want to make their systems capable of solving society's toughest problems.

Machine learning

Artificial intelligence (AI), is a field that's rapidly expanding and can be applied to real-world problems. StarCraft II may be a popular science-fiction video game, but some code-writers find it useful as an AI training ground. DeepMind is using it to train algorithms. And amateur gamers have used the autonomous bots to defeat human opponents. Although these artificial intelligence algorithms are still in their early stages, they could help us better understand complex systems behind our favorite video games.

DeepMind has developed AlphaStar AI. This AI has achieved the grandmaster status in the popular game. DeepMind claims this is proof that the general-purpose reinforcement learned that underpins AlphaStar’s training can be applied to real-world situations. This method could eventually help to train autonomous vehicles, self-learning robots, and advanced image detection systems. It's still a game for now, but it's already an impressive achievement in artificial intelligence.

Competitors

Ben Weber hosted a Starcraft AI contest during the AIIDE 2010. The event was intended to provide a challenging, fun, and educational environment for students in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Students were required to submit programs written in Java or C++ using BWAPI. Then, they used StarCraft to play 1v1 StarCraft matches. Participants had to compare their submissions against top AI programs during the competition.

Protoss bots were two of the most popular competitors. One of these was UAlbertaBot. They used a new planning system and an aggressive Zealot rush strategy. It eliminated its opponents within minutes. Zerg AIs and Terran AIs were the other two. UAlbertaBot won the competition over the top Protoss bots. Aiur was able to win the competition using a protoss build ordering system and a dragoon late-game strategy.

FAQ

Who is the inventor of AI?

Alan Turing

Turing was created in 1912. His mother was a nurse and his father was a minister. He was an exceptional student of mathematics, but he felt depressed after being denied by Cambridge University. He learned chess after being rejected by Cambridge University. He won numerous tournaments. He worked as a codebreaker in Britain's Bletchley Park, where he cracked German codes.

He died in 1954.

John McCarthy

McCarthy was conceived in 1928. He was a Princeton University mathematician before joining MIT. The LISP programming language was developed there. By 1957 he had created the foundations of modern AI.

He died in 2011.

Is AI possible with any other technology?

Yes, but this is still not the case. There have been many technologies developed to solve specific problems. But none of them are as fast or accurate as AI.

How does AI impact the workplace

It will change how we work. We will be able to automate routine jobs and allow employees the freedom to focus on higher value activities.

It will enhance customer service and allow businesses to offer better products or services.

It will allow us to predict future trends and opportunities.

It will help organizations gain a competitive edge against their competitors.

Companies that fail to adopt AI will fall behind.

What is the most recent AI invention

The latest AI invention is called "Deep Learning." Deep learning, a form of artificial intelligence, uses neural networks (a type machine learning) for tasks like image recognition, speech recognition and language translation. Google created it in 2012.

Google's most recent use of deep learning was to create a program that could write its own code. This was done with "Google Brain", a neural system that was trained using massive amounts of data taken from YouTube videos.

This allowed the system's ability to write programs by itself.

IBM announced in 2015 they had created a computer program that could create music. The neural networks also play a role in music creation. These are called "neural network for music" (NN-FM).

Which are some examples for AI applications?

AI is used in many fields, including finance and healthcare, manufacturing, transport, energy, education, law enforcement, defense, and government. These are just a few of the many examples.

  • Finance - AI is already helping banks to detect fraud. AI can scan millions upon millions of transactions per day to flag suspicious activity.
  • Healthcare – AI helps diagnose and spot cancerous cell, and recommends treatments.
  • Manufacturing – Artificial Intelligence is used in factories for efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
  • Transportation - Self-driving vehicles have been successfully tested in California. They are currently being tested around the globe.
  • Energy - AI is being used by utilities to monitor power usage patterns.
  • Education - AI is being used for educational purposes. For example, students can interact with robots via their smartphones.
  • Government - AI can be used within government to track terrorists, criminals, or missing people.
  • Law Enforcement-Ai is being used to assist police investigations. Investigators have the ability to search thousands of hours of CCTV footage in databases.
  • Defense – AI can be used both offensively as well as defensively. Offensively, AI systems can be used to hack into enemy computers. In defense, AI systems can be used to defend military bases from cyberattacks.

How does AI work

An artificial neural networks is made up many simple processors called neuron. Each neuron receives inputs and then processes them using mathematical operations.

Neurons can be arranged in layers. Each layer has its own function. The raw data is received by the first layer. This includes sounds, images, and other information. These data are passed to the next layer. The next layer then processes them further. The final layer then produces an output.

Each neuron has its own weighting value. This value is multiplied each time new input arrives to add it to the weighted total of all previous values. If the result is more than zero, the neuron fires. It sends a signal to the next neuron telling them what to do.

This process repeats until the end of the network, where the final results are produced.

How To

How to create Google Home

Google Home is a digital assistant powered artificial intelligence. It uses natural language processing and sophisticated algorithms to answer your questions. Google Assistant can do all of this: set reminders, search the web and create timers.

Google Home works seamlessly with Android phones or iPhones. It allows you to access your Google Account directly from your mobile device. Connecting an iPhone or iPad to Google Home over WiFi will allow you to take advantage features such as Apple Pay, Siri Shortcuts, third-party applications, and other Google Home features.

Like every Google product, Google Home comes with many useful features. Google Home will remember what you say and learn your routines. It doesn't need to be told how to change the temperature, turn on lights, or play music when you wake up. Instead, you can say "Hey Google" to let it know what your needs are.

These steps are required to set-up Google Home.

  1. Turn on Google Home.
  2. Hold down the Action button above your Google Home.
  3. The Setup Wizard appears.
  4. Select Continue
  5. Enter your email address and password.
  6. Click on Sign in
  7. Google Home is now online
